What is a Quiet Blender?

A blender will be labeled as quiet depending on its decibel level.

The decibel level simply means the amount of noise produced. Most blenders produce about 88 dB when in use. This is in contrast to the 68 dB produced by human conversations.

This essentially means that a blender should have a decibel level of around 68-70 dB for it to be considered a quiet one.

When buying a blender, most people will think that the decibel level does not really matter. The truth is that a difference of even a few decibels matters a lot. Here’s why.

For every 10 dB, the sound level doubles. This means that a standard blender that produces 88 dB of noise is twice as noisy as one that produces 78 dB and four times as noisy as a blender with a decibel rating of 68 dB.

How do Manufacturers Make Quiet Blenders?

Nowadays, people are looking for blenders that are more powerful and that are faster. Unfortunately, such blenders come with some extra noise.

Realizing the need for quiet blenders, manufacturers have gone the extra mile of finding ways to achieve a powerful, fast and yet quiet blender.  There are a couple of ways of dampening the sound from the blenders.

The most common feature in quiet blenders is the insulated base. An insulation material, usually rubber, is used to make the base of the blender. The rubber absorbs excess noise from the motor thereby reducing the amount of noise that is produced.

Another common way of reducing the noise is by using sound enclosure technology. In this case, a cover is designed for the jar. Basically, the jar is wrapped inside another jar. The air between the two jars acts as insulation and as a result, the noise is reduced.

Besides these sound dampening techniques, there are a couple of ways in which the blenders are constructed to be quiet. For one, the motors used are designed to have less friction. In turn, they produce less noise and save more energy.

The jars used are also made of noise reduction polymers. This material is known to be a good sound absorber and does a great job of reducing the level of noise.

What to consider when buying Blenders?

When all is said and done, buying a quiet blender is still not an easy task. It is important to know what to look for when shopping for a quiet blender. Although there are a couple of factors to bear in mind, here are the most important ones.

Noise Level

Seeing as you are looking for a quiet blender, the first thing that should come to mind is the decibel level.

Unfortunately, most manufacturers do not include the decibel rating in the product description. However, that should be one of the first places that you check.

If the decibel rating is not included, you should check the blender’s structure. Look for the rubber base and whether or not sound enclosure technology has been used. Looking at what other people say about the blender may also prove to be useful.

Motor Power

The motor power of your blender will play an important role in determining what kind of foods you can blend. It also determines how loud your blender will be.

It is important to know what kind of foods you will be using the blender for so as to gauge the motor power. For example, if you will be using the blender to grind frozen foods, you may need one whose motor power is something between 300 and 600 W.

Blade Sharpness

The motor power of your blender is not the only thing that will determine its efficiency. It is important to be on the lookout for how sharp the blades are.

Most blenders will have their blades made of stainless steel. While this is a good choice considering that you will need to wash the blender, there is a better choice. The hardened stainless steel is usually better when it comes to the blade sharpness.

You may have to get replacements when the blades become a bit blunt. In this case, you should either get them from the manufacturer or from a trusted dealer. Shoddy replacement blades may be prone to rust.

Warranty

When buying any household appliance, it is important to check that it comes with a warranty. The same goes for a blender.

You never know what to expect when it comes to electronics. Some may just be faulty right from the beginning. You wouldn’t want to spend so much money only to have it become useless within a couple of months.

Check that the quiet blender that you are buying comes with a warranty. If possible, go for one whose warranty is not less than a year.

Price

Unfortunately, quiet blenders come with a huge price to pay, literally.

Getting a blender that is both quiet and reasonably priced can be quite a challenge. Even the less pricey ones are more expensive than the noisy blenders. However, the peace and quiet that comes along with it are well worth the investment.

Have a budget in mind when buying a quiet blender. With this budget, check out a variety of blenders that you can afford before making the decision to settle for a particular one.

I will include a not-so-pricey blender in my list. Be sure to check it out if you are trying to stay on the lower side of the budget

Best Quiet Blender Reviews

Although it may not be the quietest blender on the market, you should really have a look at the Hamilton Beach blender if you are looking for something a bit on the low end of the price.

The quiet shield enclosure allows this blender to remain quiet while in use. The shield creates an air barrier for sound emission. Because the shield is removable, you can easily use it as a serving pitcher as well.

The motor on this blender is quite powerful. Operating at 1500 watts, the Hamilton Beach blender is able to crush ice and other frozen food in just a matter of seconds. The blender has hardened stainless steel blades which rotate at high speeds of about 105 mph making the blending process easy and fast.

A major concern when it comes to powerful appliances is the amount of heat that is emitted. If not careful, this appliances could blow up or even catch fore. Although the Hamilton Beach Professional Blender is quite powerful, it comes with a self-cooling system so you do not have to worry about anything.

One of the most important features of any home appliance is the ease of use. I especially love how it is so easy to use this particular blender thanks to the 4 program settings. With the touch of a button, you can easily make smoothies, crush ice, puree, and clean the blender.

Although the self-cleaning feature is quite convenient, you can easily clean the blender yourself if you prefer to. This is because all the parts are dishwasher safe.

Because not all foods are blended at the same speed, the blender also features a variable speed dial. This allows you to adjust the speed of the rotating blades maximizing on efficiency and offering you high-quality results.

The only downside to this blender is that it is not quite as quiet. However, it is much quieter than other blenders in the market. If you are looking for a relatively quiet blender that is not too expensive, you might want to start by checking this one out.

The first thing to note about this blender is the fact that it certainly does not come cheap.

However, considering the features it comes with, we can all agree that it is certainly worth it.

Vitamix is known to produce some of the best commercial blenders for restaurants and smoothie shops

Well, if you are looking for a commercial blender that will not distract your customers as you whip some of the best smoothies, then the Vitamix Quiet One is a worthy investment.

There are quite a number of features that make this blender one of the quietest ones ever. It comes with the patented noise reduction feature. This is in the form of a magnetically secured sound enclosure. The magnets create a good seal that works really well in keeping the noise down allowing you to hold conversations while using the blender.

You might think that with the sound enclosure being magnetically sealed that you will have a hard time getting it out. On the contrary, the shield is so easy to remove allowing you to clean the blender without much hindrance.

Although it runs quietly, the blender has one of the most powerful motors. The 3-peak horsepower motor works fast to crush ice and make smoothies without too much effort in the least amount of time.

While using this blender, you will undoubtedly love to be in control of the whole blending process. With the 6 optimized programs and 34 different settings that are available, you can easily program the blender however you want. The blender also comes with automatic shut off feature and pulse features making your work so much easier.

One of the key things to note with this blender is that it is quite heavy. Weighing in at 27 pounds, it may not be the ideal choice if you are looking for a blender that you can quite easily relocate. However, it works great for an over the bar commercial blender.

Given its price and weight, I would certainly recommend it for a commercial establishment. Its sturdiness is definitely an important factor for a place that will have so many people operating it. For a blender intended for family use, it may not be the best choice.

Coming very close to the Vitamix Quiet One blender, we have the Blendtec Pro 800 blender.

Just like its counterpart above, the Blendtec Pro 800 is quite expensive.

However, it is known as the World's Quietest Blender and will not interrupt a conversation in any way while in use.

Although the blender is designed for use at home, it comes with many features that make it a great option for commercial use as well. Thanks to the powerful motor and sound dampening features, the blender is able to deliver amazing performance while at the same time producing no noise.

It has a sleek sealed sound enclosure that works to reduce the amount of noise being produced. This, together with the sound dampening design on the motor base make this blender very quiet during operation.

The Blendtec 800 has one of the most powerful motors when it comes to blenders. With a 3.8 h.p motor, the blender requires less energy to get the work done. This, in turn, translates to less noise and more ice crushing power.

One of the best things about this blender is the unique qualities that it possesses. Unlike other blenders, the blade on this one is not sharp. In fact, it is flat. You are probably wondering how then the blender is able to crush foods.

The blender bashes food against the inside of the jar to up to 10000 RPMs repeatedly. The Wildside, which is basically a small fifth side that was added to the side of the container then makes sure that centrifugal force is eliminated. The result? Very well-blended drinks.

With the 6 pre-programmed cycles, you can easily make batters, smoothies, and even whole juice. The Blendtec comes with 11-speed touch slider and pulse. All you have to do is to slide your finger up and down the control panel for the ultimate precision speed control. The pulse button, in turn, allows you to add a burst of high-speed blending power.

I especially love how this blender strives to maximize efficiency. It has a vented gripper lid that allows you to add ingredients while blending. You do not have to turn the blender off while trying to make that perfect smoothie.

When it comes to unique blenders, the Optimum Vacuum Sealed Blender is quite a good example.

Unlike most quiet blenders that use the sound enclosure systems to reduce the amount of noise being produced, this particular blender uses a vacuum feature

Thanks to this feature, air is removed from the container before blending leaving no medium for noise to travel. Of course, because the vacuum feature is not as effective as the sound enclosure, the blender tends to get noisier with more powerful blends.

The vacuum feature also allows the blender to prevent oxidation. Oxidation is known to alter the taste and color of certain foods especially those containing Vitamin C. Thanks to the vacuum feature, you are able to prepare your smoothies and enjoy them hours later without much to worry about.

The Optimum Vacuum Sealed Blender is quite versatile and is able to perform up to 15 functions. The bearings on the appliance are custom designed to minimize heat generation and optimal performance is achieved in seconds thanks to the high speed of the blender.

In addition to the powerful motor used to crush hard ingredients, the blender also comes with a tamper. The tamper helps in crushing as well as making sure that you do not have to scrape ingredients off the walls of the jar each time you use the blender.

With the five presets, you are easily able to make your smoothies, vegetable/fruits, pulse, nuts, and soup. The blender also boasts of a timer that allows you to focus on other things as the blender runs and notifies you when done.

Besides the fact that the blender gets noisier with more powerful blends, I also did not like that the fact that it has a plastic jar. After prolonged use, the plastic can get discolored making it uninviting. However, this does not affect the performance of the blender.

As compared to the other blenders on this list, the Vava 500W Blender is certainly quite appealing especially when you consider the price.

At a much cheaper price than the rest, this particular blender also has some considerable features and that is why it made it to this list.

I especially love the fact that it is lightweight and compact making it very portable and preferred for use at home.

Given its price, the Vava 500W blender is not the most powerful appliance I the market. However, it boasts of three presets that change how the blender behaves. These presets are ice crush, pulse, and smoothie. The blender also comes with a variable speed control.

Thanks to the available preset and adjustable speeds, you are able to make just about anything with this blender including baby food, pancake batter, as well as different soups and sauces.

It is important to note that this blender does not have quite a powerful motor as compared to the others in this article. Because of this, it is impeccably quiet while in operation.

The only drawback that the Vava 500W poses is the less powerful motor. Because its motor is not so powerful, blending hard ingredients can be tough for this blender.

If you are looking for a not so pricey blender that is able to carry out the basic functions, then this may be a good choice. Just ensure that you do not plan to use it to crush ice or frozen foods.

Can I Make My Blender Quieter?

We get it, buying a new blender altogether may be quite a challenge especially if you are tight on a budget.

So, you are probably wondering whether you can make your blender less noisy and if so, how will you do it.

Well, unfortunately, there is not much that you can do. If the blender was not designed to be a quiet blender, then it is still going to be noisy no matter what you try.

However, you could try to dampen the sound a little by buying a shield for the blender. This is an affordable option for a sound enclosure. All you have to do is place the shield over the blender and the sound will be muffled.

Alternatively, you may decide to use simple home techniques. Simply place a folded hand towel under the blender and let it absorb some of the sounds. It may not be as effective as a shield but it will help you maintain your sanity when the blender is in use.

On the Quietest Blenders

When it comes to quiet blenders, it is important to realize that you do not have to compromise the efficiency of the blender for the sound dampening features. As much as you want a quiet blender, it should still be able to perform its functions efficiently.

I must say, choosing the best quiet blender was quite a difficult task. The Blendtec Pro 800 and the Vitamix Quiet One are two blenders that are almost similar, making it a bit harder to choose between the two.

Although the Vitamix Quiet One is two decibels quieter than the Blendtec Pro 800, I will have to choose the latter as the best quiet blender. This is because I found it to be much more efficient and easy to use and clean. Besides, it comes with a 10-year warranty as compared to its counterpart that only comes with a 3-year warranty.

I hope that this article helps you when deciding what quiet blender to buy. Ultimately, your decision will depend on your needs and how much you are willing to part with. All in all, let this article be the first step you take in achieving quiet use of the blender while at home.
