A chimney might be a really problematic area when it comes to soundproofing. Well, not that much for soundproofing as much as like source of the noise.
There are several types of noises that you can hear through your chimney. Firstly, you can hear the wind, scratching and banging noise coming down through the chimney.
Secondly, the chimney is like a resonating box of the guitar. It’s hallowed and a great sound transporter. If the walls happen to be thin then you might hear the noise coming from other room through the chimney- just like the noise from ventilation.
However, there are several simple solutions to your problem. I recommend you to go with the 1st and 2nd one, and save the third one if previous two fail to soundproof.
I have stopped chimney wind noise in my house and I got only to the first 2 methods- they did the job just fine. The last one is the most reliable, but luckily, I didn’t need it for my problem.
Now, let’s check out these 3 methods to soundproof your chimney.

Just like every teenage boy in the world, my son likes playing video games.
Sometimes he would play that for so long, that his console would start overheating and the fan would start buzzing so loudly, that we couldn’t even hear the sound of the game on the TV.
Well, there is no pleasure in playing a game, and all you can hear is the sound of the console’s fan and the anxiety that it will soon go into the flames from overheating.
If he was playing games, my wife couldn’t even sit in the same room if she wanted to read or something.
And so we tried a few tricks and found our solution.
Hopefully, these few tricks will bring peace to your family as well.

If you are an enthusiast when it comes to keeping tropical fish like I am, then you are very well aware of the filters and how they can be.
There is no doubt that a fish tank filter is very important for your aquarium. It makes the water flow and keeps it nice and clean and the fish happy and healthy.
But sometimes the noises that are coming from your aquarium are far from relaxing, but quite the opposite. “My fish tank filter is making a grinding noise!” – That’s one of the most common complain I hear.
The noises coming from your fish tank can be very annoying and disturbing. They often come from the dirt and clog, it could have moved a little and be displaced, or it is just that some of the parts have broken.

Making your home a quiet place can sometimes be a tricky job. There is no such thing as a magic wand that will make your home all of a sudden a better place to live.
You will need to make some measures of soundproofing before being able to finally enjoy your silence.
I’ve been asked a lot is there any kind of noise cancelling system for home, or noise protection that can definitely work. The answer is: there is!
Of course, as implementing any other system, you will need to make some layers of protection all over your home.
When I started building my soundproofing system for home, we were short on budget and needed to act quickly. Our baby couldn’t sleep because of a traffic noise and the neighbors all around the house.
So, we did some soundproofing but it wasn’t enough. We’ve covered windows and doors, but walls were still a wick point.
Therefore, if you intend to build the system that will completely work out, you will need to cover every single point of your home. From windows, ceiling, walls, doors, to even floor.

It’s enough of a challenge to figure out where you lie in the spectrum of people who need acoustic treatments or soundproofing and similar dilemmas. As discussed before, it can be a bit of a fine line to walk.
I know, for us, it wasn’t exactly an easy feat, when we set it up in our home’s theater room. It’s always a struggle to decide what you need and how to achieve it best. It doesn’t help when you consider that a wrong investment can cost a lot if you make mistakes.
Obviously, it’s not that hard or costly to purchase some acoustic panels, but it can add up if you end up going in without a solid plan. Costs do add up if you need to buy multiples of even the best deal.
That’s why the goal here today is to make sure you:
-End up able to form a clear and concise plan of action
-Know what to aim for in terms of material and coverage
-Don’t end up wasting money
One word of warning: there is no ideal solution that can magically solve all your acoustic problems. In all honesty, the science of acoustics often relies on a person’s feel of it all and their opinion on how things ought to be, more than it relies on something precisely and coldly based on math alone.

I understand that it can be confusing but there is a major difference between soundproofing and sound absorption.
Usually, when people have a problem with unwanted noise, they want the sound that is being made inside the room to keep it in the room or they want to prevent the sound from entering the room. This is commonly known as soundproofing.
On the other hand, people may want to reduce the echoing or reverberation of the sound within the room. Namely, they are looking for an installation of sound absorption.
